10 year old Elle R. is the youngest of 4 kids. Elle's mom, Amy, noticed something was off with her youngest, and Elle's godmother, Peds ED Nurse, Linda Young, convinced Amy to bring Elle down to the ER so that they could take a look at her. Tests showed that Elle needed heart surgery. She had open heart surgery the next day, at 3 weeks old. Since her surgery, she has had to continue to go back to MUSC for checkups, where she sees Dr. Geoffrey Forbus. Elle has grown into a happy, energetic 10 year old who loves to sing and be active. To this day, when people ask about her scar, she tells them it's not a scar, it's her "miracle mark", and now she wants to be a doctor when she grows up.
