Not even a brief rainstorm or the searing heat that followed could dampen the enthusiasm of children and others gathered August 12 for the groundbreaking of the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital and Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavilion.

Rachel battled cancer four times at the MUSC Children’s Hospital
Rachel Edwards battled cancer four times at the MUSC Children’s Hospital. She spent 150 nights there, enduring 11 surgeries and five rounds of chemotherapy between ages 10 and 15. When the prognosis looked bleak the fourth time, her oncologists enrolled her in a clinical trial based at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
