breakfast at the construction site

Shawn Jenkins and his family delivered breakfast to more than 500 construction workers who are building the new children’s hospital that will bear Jenkins’ name. The Jenkins family visited the construction site Aug. 28, surprising the Robins & Morton team with hundreds of fresh Chick-fil-A biscuits. Employees at the Dorchester Road restaurant were up as early as 1:30 a.m. hand rolling dough for Jenkins’ special delivery. The hot biscuits were to thank the construction workers for their hard work and commitment.

“This building is creating new platforms so we can look after people, it is as simple as that, and you guys are a huge part of that,” Jenkins told the Robins & Morton team while holding 3-year old son, Knox. “The nurses, physicians and researchers are amped up and excited to get in here and begin to deliver care, and at the end of the day, you all will have built that wonderful house for these people to deliver that care. From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of my wife Jocelyn and my family here today, we just want to thank you! Just know how much this community loves you and appreciates all that you are doing.”

In 2015, the Jenkins family pledged $25 million to build a new MUSC Children’s Hospital. The MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital will provide not only the most technologically-advanced equipment but also be a place of healing -- where patients with cancer and blood disorders can overlook outdoor spaces, where newborn babies can stay close to their mothers, and where physicians can provide the best care from miles away through telemedicine. The state-of-the art facility is set to open in the fall of 2019.
